Dietary assessment
There is sometimes concern that children are not getting enough of all the nutrients they need. I can teach you how much food your child needs from the different food groups and then give you ideas for achieving the current recommendations.

Vegetarian diets
There are several reasons that a child may choose to follow a vegetarian diet. Children who follow a vegetarian diet can have a healthy and adequate diet but it does require some extra planning. I can assess your child’s vegetarian diet and provide you with suggestions and recipes to meet their nutritional requirements.

Coeliac disease
The treatment of coeliac disease is a gluten-free diet. When a child is diagnosed with coeliac disease, parents and the child need to learn about the diet, which is the only treatment for this condition.

Food allergy
Once a child has been diagnosed with a food allergy, reading food labels, knowing which foods to substitute to meet the child’s nutritional requirements and monitoring growth are important. All children on a restricted diet need a dietary assessment to ensure they are getting all the nutrients they need for healthy growth and development.

Overweight/obesity
Approximately 25% of Australian children are overweight or obese. I can help you identify eating habits that are contributing to your child’s weight and suggest strategies to make significant changes.

Disability
I have many years experience working with children and adults with physical and intellectual disability. The more severe a person’s disability the less likely they are to meet their nutritional requirements. I provide assessment and nutrition management of people with disabilities.

2. Group homes & organisations providing support for people with disabilities

People with disabilities often have specific nutritional needs.  The most common nutrition issues for people with disabilities include:

  1. Inadequate food intake because of swallowing proplems.
  2. Overweight and obesity as a result of not matching food intake with physical activity level.
  3. Inadequate intake of foods from a specific food group. This can lead to a nutritional deficiency which can affect a person's future health.

I can provide education and consultation to people working in group homes and organisations that provide support for people with disabilites.
